  • Marcel Hartnett was the daughter of Percival and Martha Hartnett of Wanganui.

    Late September 1943, Marcel Hartnett with nine other WAACs took over duties at 2NZ Convalescent depot. A few months later, on January 1944, she was to die tragically in a road accident at Plaine des Gaiacs, aged 23 years.

    She was the only WAAC to die on active service in the Pacific theatre of war. AWMM
