  • David Anderson (born Andersen) was my grandmother's youngest brother, his mother Petrine was Danish born, his father, Petter or Peter, was born in Sweden. Apparently he had heard stirring stories about the Boer War and was eager to join up. Born a country boy, he was of course, familiar with horses so enlisted as a Trooper in the Canterbury Mounted Rifles. Rest peacefully, David, you have not been forgotten

  • David Anderson was my great uncle and his name at birth was David Andersen. My mother his niece spoke to me of her Uncle buried at Gallipoli and believed she had a map of the grave. I don't know if he would have realized how his sister Mary and my mother (his niece ) would feel so strongly about his loss and keep his name alive in our family. My mother's wish was that someone in the family should pay a tribute to him by visiting his grave. I was saddened to find, when I did research that he does not have a grave, but his name is on the memorial at Hill 60 in Gallipoli with others. To my knowledge no one has visited the memorial yet.
