  • My father, Ralph Copsey flew in WWII with James Gillespie Neilson (aka "Tubby").
Dad was bomber-aimer, Tubby was pilot. They flew all their 26 missions together in Stirlings from Downham Market with 218 Squadron.
Dad was awarded the DFM for the same mission that Tubby received his DFC.
According to dad's log book, they flew 99 times together.
I have photos of the crew and every year we leave a copy, with poppy attached, on the Bomber Command memorial here. Whenever we visit the museum, my family always say "hello and thanks" to Tubby, beneath his name on the memorial wall.
Similarly, when I'm in England we visit Tubby's grave in Fen Ditton, Cambridge.
If any of his family would like to get in touch, I would be very happy to share the photos and information I have.
We will never forget Tubby and his crew.
