Caleb Hill was the son of Caleb and Mary Olivia Hill, of Ohinewai, Auckland, New Zealand; husband of Iva Lilian Hill, of Ohinewai.
An article in the Western Leader, 27 October 2011, p. 7 mentions the diary of Douglas Strid, a member of 24 Battalion, who wrote in his war time diary about the death of eight of his colleagues on 1 January 1945 and their burials. AWMM

Caleb is the brother of my Grandad - the late Francis Murray Hill - buried at Maramarua Cemetry, NZ.
I never got to met you Caleb but Grandad always had a photo of your headstone in his desk. Although Grandad didn't speak about the war he did tell us about you. You will always be a hero in our hearts.
