Having visited Turkey, Belgium, France and many other battled fields, it wasn't until settling in NZ in 2000 that ANZAC settled with me. Standing in an ANZAC assembly at Southland Boys' High School in Invercargill and listening to the story of the four brothers, the Christophers, brought the true meaning of ANZAC to me. Hi Victor. I visited you in 2015 in April and spoke of you onboard the Queen Elzabeth in an ANZAC Dawn ceremony on the 24th as the stern was nudged into ANZAC Cove. I visted your grave and also where you fell. You were the same age as my son at the time of your death and I can understand your reticence in the last letter you wrote to your mum and dad about the 'death struggle' you were involved in. As you quoted, 'where every prospect pleases and only man is vile' That was the 23rd of May 1915 - A day before the truce to bury the dead of both sides. I have forged a friendship with the grandson of one of your former foes. We agreed to make the world a better place for us all to line in. Be at peace.
