  • George Hobley was the son of George John and Amy Louise Hobley; husband of Dorothy Lilian Hobley, of Sandringham, Auckland, New Zealand.

    Hobley was one of the five crew of the coaster SS Puriri, a minesweeper, killed when the vessel was sunk by mine.

    HMNZS Puriri was a mine sweeper. It sank off Bream Head when it hit a drifting mine. Five crew died and five were injured. In all 26 crew members were picked up. AWMM
