  • Alexander Hogg was the son of James Thompson Wilson Hogg and Anne Hogg of Wanganui; husband of Amy Isabel Hogg of Havelock North. New Zealand.

Hogg died of natural causes at Anakiwa, Picton.

He initially served with the New Zealand Army in WWI as a doctor with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.

He didn’t serve overseas during WWI, but his military file does have a record of him being given orders to deploy to the front in September 1915. However, in April 1916 he was still in New Zealand and in communication with the army about offering his services as a doctor.

In July 1919 he was awarded an OBE (military division) for services rendered in connection with the war, and in 1920 he was appointed the Commanding Officer of the Rotorua Military Hospital (1920). He eventually retired with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.

In July 1940 he was seconded from the Retired List to the New Zealand Air Force to act in a medical capacity. He served with the Air Force until his death in 1943.
