  • I am Henry (Harry) Russell Hopley's nephew and I now reside in England having served 20 years in the Royal Air Force. My younger brother Colin also served in the RAF and we are both intending to make a pilgrimage to Crete to see Harry's grave at the end of May 2017. Sadly we were both born several years after Harry's death and so we never had the chance to meet him but we as a family grew up knowing about his service in WW2 and that he had been killed in Crete in 1941. He was our mother Jean's eldest brother and she idolized him. We believe he died in this noble cause to ensure that we grew up as adults in a world free of tyranny and we will be forever thankful for the ultimate sacrifice he made.
