  • You decided to enlist before conscription, your sister said to me, because unlike WW1 you wanted to be prepared, and at least have "a fighting chance" Those Army boots played havoc with your feet, but at last you overcame. Dear Sister was so sad she missed saying goodbye, but thought of you as the Strathaird lay in stream waiting to leave Wellington Harbor. Sadly the rest is History, you were mentioned as one of the old hands, sorely missed after you fell, in the Battalion and Armoured Regiment History.
