  • Fairlie Baker was the second son of Francis and Ella Baker (nee Webster). He was the grandson of John Webster, a pioneer of the Opononi district.

    He was educated at Omapere School and St John's College in Auckland. He farmed in the Opononi area and lived in the old family homestead built by his grandfather.

    He was part of the 11th Reinforcements to NZEF to leave New Zealand and he served with the New Zealand forces from 1916-1918.

    Baker was an executive member of Hokianga RSA and in 1971 was awarded the Association's Gold Star. He was a Master of Rawene Masonic Lodge and a member of the Waimamaku Bowling Club.
