  • Keith Smith was the son of Robert Emmett Smith and Gertrude Smith, of Whakatane

    Embarked in 1942 for training in Canada, then embarked for England 22 October 1943

    No 3 Bombing & Gunnery School Macdonald on 23 August 1943 where he was awarded his air gunners badge

    1943 operational training on the Wellington bomber

    He was promoted to Flight Sergeant on 1 April 1944.

    He was shot and killed as he was parachuting down

    A memorial to the five crew who lost their lives on the night of 21 July 1944 was dedicated on 13 November 2003
