  • I visited Cassino, Italy on 4th August 2017. I walked along the NZ graves and left a poppy on all the unknown soldiers graves. I saw, and took a photo of, the grave of GM South, 17789, Serjeant. NZ Division Calgary. It caught my eye as my birth name is South. I left a poppy on his grave. I was visting on a trip in Italy and because my father-in-law fought there (28th Maori Battalion) but was one of the lucky ones to come home.

It was a very humbling tearful experience visiting the war graves. Such young men and so far from home.

If anyone would like the photo of his grave, please contact me.
