William was my first cousin. He had one sibling Alec. I was born 2 months before Bill was killed in Crete. We always had two photos of Bill on our mantle piece at home. One was when he was aged about 15 dressed in church robes as he was involved in the local Epsom Anglican Church in Auckland.

The other was in his army uniform, he was 21. He was dearly beloved by his family and ours and he was always remembered and spoken of so I grew up “ knowing” cousin Bill.
Both of my brothers John and Bill have visited his grave in Suda Bay Crete and as I write this my son Gerald and his son Tim are about to pay a visit also.
