    • Son of Mr and Mrs Thomas H. Clark of 50 Virginia Avenue Eden Terrace, Auckland AWMM
    • Was the fourth son of Mr TA Clark and Mrs SC Clark. He was 20 years of age and was born in Northern Wairoa district. He was educated by Mr J E Elliott of Te Kopuru and Aoroa School. Private Clark took part in the Gallipoli campaign prior to being transferred to France. At the time of his enlistment he was engaged in farming with his parents at Paparata Bombay. Was one of about 10 children, three of whom served in WW1 - brothers Samuel Goodall Clark (killed in action 8 Aug 1915) and Thomas Alfred Clark (also served in Gallipoli with Fred).
      His parents memorialised Fred and Sam with the following poem:
      "Our sons' names shall be cherished
      And looked upon with pride
      While trying to do their duty
      They nobly fell and died.

      Tis an honour to New Zealand
      'Tis no idle boast.
      They died true heroes
