    • New Zealander Sergeant-Observer Thomas Hunter RNZAF # 42329 was based at Air Training School- at Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Pennfield Ridge, New Brunswick, - Canada.
      On 26 January 1943 and with his 2 fellow crew members - Australians (RAAF) Pilot Officer Donald S. Cormack and Pilot Officer Stanley J. James were aboard a 34 Operational Training Unit Ventura I AE 665 as part of a 4 Ventura aircraft training exercise.
      During the exercise radio contact was lost with Ventura I AE665 and no further contact with the aircraft was made.
      50 aircraft searched for Ventura I AE665. A small amount of wreckage was found in the Northumberland Strait. All 3 crew aboard perished.
      It is believed the aircraft descended from 8,000 feet to get under cloud - and struck the water in the Northumberland Strait.

  • Thomas was my father's brother, my dad is named after him. As far as the family knew, he had no siblings so I was surprised to see someone call him poppa on here. As I have done a lot of research on the Hunter family tree, Id really like to hear from you 'Lea' - regards John
