  • George Gibbs was the son of John Henry Gibs. His mother died in 1908. He was educated at Sanson, Oroua Downs and Hawera High School.

    He married Gladys Bell in 1920 at Taihape and she died in 1969. His second marriage was to Clara Oliver. He had two children: Eric and Valerie.



    He was initially declared unfit when he tried to enlist in 1914, but was later reexamined and entered Trentham Camp on 20 October 1915.

    After his discharge in 1918 he returned to Utiku. AWMM
