  • Jack Guilliard was the son of Arthur and Eva Grace Guilliard (Nee Austen).

Two brothers served in WW2 Jack Guilliard (5180) and George Gilliard (36940) who was killed at Sidi Rezegh in the Western Desert in 1941.

In April 1942 Jack was sentenced, along with five other New Zealand POWs, to four years in Fort Zinna prison in Germany for refusing to work for the enemy. He managed to get away from the prison later in 1942 and was returned to Stalag XVIIIA under an assumed name.

Jack received severe injuries when the POW camp was bombed by the US Air Force and was sent to England. He was repatriated to New Zealand on the Hospital Ship Oranje in 1945.

He married Patricia Margaret Scott at Taihape in 1946 and they had two children: Claire Mickleson and Peter George Guilliard. AWMM
