  • My mother , Dorothy Orum and her brother Arnold Orum were friends of Doug's while he was training in Winnipeg, Manitoba . My mom continued her friendship with him and wrote to him and his other N.Z. friend James Trott for some time during the war. I have a photo of these men in Winnipeg. Also a photo of a graduation celebration at a hotel in Winnipeg. And many letter from both men . My mom also received an official notice of the fact Doug was missing and later on presumed dead. Some of her letters to him were returned to her unopened. My mom kept these letters her whole life. I have them now since she passed away in 1994.
