    He was the son of Walter Harding Martin and Grace Josephine Brown (Nee Harmon). He was educated at Taihape and married Mary Theresa Rawlings at Hawera. They had three children: Kerian John Martin 27.8.47, Wayne Patrick Martin 17.5.51 and Louise Mary Martin 8.4.56. AWMM
