Henry Price was the son of Frederick Charles and Alice Margaret of Whangarei, New Zealand.

Born in Payneham, Adelaide, his parents took him to England at the age of seven, and three years later emigrated to New Zealand. He was educated at Hora Hora School and later Whangarei High School.

According to his nephew who supplied the information, Henry was about 25 years a time of enlistment which he thinks was 1940. At the time of embarkation he was engaged to be married.

His nephew says his uncle was 'as brave as they come - tail gunner, radio operator Wellington Bomber top speed 100 odd knots. Didn't stand a chance'.

He played football for City rugby Club and in 1939 was awarded the silver cup presented by Mr Bluthemal for the most improved player. He was also a keen member of the N A M R and in 1936 won the cup for machine gunnery and also the cup for the most efficient soldier.

One of the first to volunteer for active service, he commenced his training at Levin and sailed for Canada in December 1940.

He was reported missing on air operations on March 12 1942, after having made several successful flights over enemy territories.
