      Received severe shrapnel woumds to left hand and leg whiolst in action. Admitted to XV Corps Dressing Station and from there evacuated to England on the HS Western Australia. Wounds operated on at NO 1NZGH where he remained until 8 November 1916. From there he went to the Convalescent Depot at Codford, transferred to Hornchurch on 8 May 1917. AWMM

  • Returned to NZ from Glasgow on SS Bhamo on 10 March 1919, arriving NZ 26 April 1919.

    Mother was Henrietta Isabella Smith (nee Subritzky)

    Served in WW II too where he was in the Home Services. During the time from 16 July 1940 - 30 August 1942, the time of his discharge, he was an Instructor at Whangarei and Narrow Neck Camps. He received the British War Medal and New Zealand War Service Medal for his services. AWMM
