  • Married Christina (Chris) Smith on 15 November 1941. They had three children.

    Went into camp in December 1939 as a Terry at Mount Victoria and later became Instructor at NMDSI with the rank of Lieutenant.

    After being wounded at Cassino, he went on to Florence. Returning to Maadi, he was appointed education officer to the NZ training depot with the rank of captain and later as G 3 training.

    On the cessation of hostilities he was offered a job with UNRRA but could not pass the medical examination.

    He returned to NZ on the Dominion Monarch in January 1946.

    Served as Mayor of New Lynn, Auckland, 1965-74; 1977-80. AWMM
