  • Wilfred Kirkley was the son of Cedric and Elsie Myrtle Kirkley, of Hastings, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.

    Prior to the war he was also a Drover in the Hawkes Bay Region.

    Wilfred's older brother Colin was apart of the Royal Air Force, and a member of the Hawke's Bay and East Coast Aero Club, in 1935 while undergoing aerobatics training in Digby, Lincolnshire both Colin Kirkley and Flying Officer George Edward Bullen Nixon were killed in an aircraft accident.
