    "But Songo fever was only one among a number of threats. This had been brought home by the tragic case of Lance-Corporal Frederick Poynton, a regular soldier, whose prolonged efforts to join Kayforce had finally been rewarded when he was selected for the Expansion Draft. Less than a month after he arrived in Japan, however, he was struck down by polio-encephalmyelitis." (McGibbon 1996, vol. 2, p. 240)
