  • Ivan died in my father's arms on December 20 1944. My father was Andy Tolich. He was a stretcher bearer with the 24th Battalion 2nd NZEF. Dad could not stop the bleeding and the driver could not find the RAP station.. My father used to take us to the Auckland War Memorial and point out Ivan's name. i never forgot the story. I do not think my father (who has passed on) ever forgave himself. My son Robert has visited Ivan's grave in Forli in Italy. He told Ivan how his grandfather felt. I think we have all found peace now. We will remember them
