  • The 7th Anti tank Regiment was involved in covering the withdrawal of the NZ Division from the Olympus and Servia Passes in Greece on the 18th April 1942. After heavy fighting, they withdrew to Elasson, where they came under attack from Stuka dive bombers. While the first Stuka was shot down, the commander of the 34th Anti-Tank Battery, Major Jenkins and 2nd Lt E.G 'Toby' Lewis were wounded but stayed in action. Gunners R.A Fromenton and J.McMillan were killed in action, Norman Mackay died on the journey to hospital, gallantly joking to the last about his terrible wounds. (Pgs 53/54 2nd NZ Divisonal Artillery)
