    • Thomas Mallon was the son of Alexander and Dora Mallon, of New Plymouth, New Zealand.

Barrass, M.B. (2001- 2008). Web site: Air of Authority - A History of RAF Organisation. "Squadrons numbered in the 400 series were technically units of the RCAF, RAAF and RNZAF, but their members were placed under the operational control of the RAF and are usually considered to be part of the RAF's organisational structure". • Thomas Alexander Mallon was the son of Alexander and Dora Mallon of Bell Block, Taranaki. After being educated at New Plymouth Boy’s High School Thomas entered the grocery trade and by the time he enlisted in the RNZAF he was managing his own store in Moturoa. He received his training in New Zealand before being sent to Canada. He was then sent to England and posted to 488 (NZ) Squadron. After the D Day landings in France in 1944 his Squadron was attached to the British Army of Liberation in France and Belgium. His aircraft was lost during a sortie over Holland. His body was recovered and buried in Bergen-op-Zoom Cemetery, Holland. His younger brother, John Charles Mallon was killed earlier in the war on 8 October 1940.
