    • The following text is taken from "The St Andrew's College Memorial Fund" book that was published in 1946 with records of all Old Collegians who died in active service as part of a fundraiser for the Memorial Chapel:

      Barry Martin was the son of Mr Francis B Martin and Mrs Martin (now A M Heaps) of Christchurch, was at St Andrew's College from 1918 to the end of 1925. After a period of study at University of Canterbury he joined the RNZAF and was sent to England to complete his training. He was posted to a Pathfinder Squadron and was lost on operations over Cologne on Februrary 2nd 1943. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross posthumously, the citation paying tribute to his skill and efficiency as a Navigator.
