From their families and a grateful nation – you will be honoured and remembered always – Rest In Peace. This poppy is laid in their memory by Ian D. Martyn (Medals Reunited New Zealand) - nephew of Sgt Jack (J.B.) Martyn, aircraft Captain of Vickers Wellington X – HE175/NA-U reported missing 29/30 March 1943.

  • Sgt Pilot John (Jack) Basil Martyn was a member of No 428 ‘Ghost’ Squadron, A Vickers Wellington bomber squadron of No 6 Group, Royal Canadian Air Force Motto: USQUE AD FINEM – “To The Very End” The crew of Wellington # HE-175/428 NA-U departed from RAF Dalton at 1935 hours on 29 March 1943 to conduct a night bombing raid over Bochum, Germany. The crew was last heard from by Hull Direction Finder at 0155 hours, 26 miles West of Acklington, Northumberland over the North Sea on 30 March 1943 The aircraft identity was: Vickers Wellington X HE-175/428 NA-U Crew Members: Sgt Pilot John (Jack) Basil Martyn RNZAF Sgt J. Donaldson RNZAF Sgt K. Benjamin RAF Sgt L. Hayward RAF Sgt N. Farr RAF Ian D. Martyn Nephew
