  • Douglas was my uncle, my father's only sibling, who was killed on 20 April 1945, just days before the war ended. He was a fine young man, sadly one of many who lost their lives. Family were informed by telegram in those days and there was no money or possibility for family to visit his grave. Many years later, in 2004, my husband and I were the first family members to visit his grave in the Forli War Cemetery in Vechiazzano, Italy - a very emotional and humbling experience.

  • My great uncle, who I never met, but who was a much loved brother of my grandfather. I believe he died in Italy shortly before the end of WW2. Lest we forget.
    Public - Mark - Other Relative - 24 April 2015
  • Douglas was my fathers cousin and my father often talked about how sad it was he had been killed only days before hostilities ended in Italy. I was named after him and visited his parents as a young boy. I remember his photo on a table and also that they grew tree tomatoes in their orchard. Grant Douglas Mason son of James Roger Mason.
    Public - Grant Douglas - Other Relative - 3 March 2015
