  • John was my nana caths brother.
Catherine branden. I got to know john mccalman( John's nephew son of John's brother Chanel)when I lived in taranaki in the early 2000s. John had possession of his uncle John's death medal along with his father chanels medal. I felt quite sad when I saw these along with chanels first grave buried by his moari mates of the 28th battalon. I'm sure both these warriors were much loved by my nana cath and her siblings. I got to know John's great nephews and niece and great great nephews and nieces. An awesome whanau

  • John (Joe) was my Grandmother, Edith Margaret Hutchins younger brother, she lost another brother, Chanel (Mac) and a son, Terry during the war also. She had another two boys both of who served during the war, one of whom, my uncle Don also fought in Italy. Happily he is still alive and keeps good health. We do all we can to keep the memory of these brave men alive in the family. I would love to hear from more of Joes relations
