      On 7 Dec 1943, 24 Bn took part in a daylight assault on the heavily defended town of Osogna.
      From The Pride of the Lion (p. 66): "Ken McKay and Alex McKenzie both died of wounds on the same day in December in Italy. They had together been attempting to rescue a fellow Kiwi, from Aria, who had been injured by a landmine." The McKenzies (Applecross Rd) were neighbours of the McKays (near corner of Mountfield and Applecross roads) at Waipu.
