  • Frank Morrison was the son of James Morrison and of Mary Hartley (nee Steppings), of Birkdale, Auckland

    According to his niece, Frank had two younger brothers Jack (Brutus) and Charlie (Froggy), and a younger sister, Margaret, whom the boys weren't interested in, unless she might have a girlfriend they could take out!

    Before working in the Freezing Works at Southdown, he sharemilked at Wiri and Waiuku with his brother Jack.

    Jack was very talented in painting on velvet and made cushion covers and firescreens in this art form. He was adept at playing the mouth organ and was an active member of the Auckland Actors' Society.

    He bought an old boat which he called 'The Clifton', and was doing it up in the hope of sailing round the world, but declaration of war put a stop to that and he enlisted.

    The New Zealand Herald reported on 17 June 1941 that Cpl. Frank Morrison had been killed in action. AWMM
