    • Grand-son of Joshua Ansley Newport & his wife Ellen (nee Polglase) - of Upper Uruwhenua, Takaka District.
      Basil's great grandfather Stephen Newport (1810-1888) emigrated - to Nelson, New Zealand - with his 2 brothers Samuel & Joseph Newport - from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire in 1842 -aboard the immigrant ship 'Sir Charles Forbes'.
