  • Educated at Etalvale School where he gained his Proficiency Certificate. His sports were deer stalking and pig shooting.

    Ian commenced operational flying with 15 Squadron. As wireless operator of a 15 Squadron Stirling Bomber, he took part in eleven operational flights comprising attacks on Wupperta, Dusseldorf, Hamburg (3), Essen and Remsehied, all in Germany,one in France and three sorties minelaying in enemy waters.
