    The NZEF Nominal Roll lists Anderson as embarking with the Canterbury Infantry Battalion at Otago, but the NZEF Roll of Honour and Stowers (Bloody Gallipoli: The New Zealanders' Story) states he was in 4 Otago Company, Otago Infantry Battalion: he may have been transferred.

    Stowers (Bloody Gallipoli) also states William John Anderson was killed in action 2 May 1915 on Dead Man's Ridge (Pope's Hill) in attack on Baby 700 but was reported missing 2-24 May, but the NZEF Roll of Honour states he died at Gallipoli somewhere between 1 May and 23 May. AWMM
