  • During the war, he was wounded twice and at one time held the rank of Sergeant. He had his 21st birthday at Battle stations.

Bill enjoyed his days at the station at Ohinewairua -peaceful days with good people, wonderful horses and dogs.

After the war he came home to a career in forestry, originally at Kaingaroa where he lived with his mother. He moved later, after marriage, to Murupara. He was in charge of forestry roading for the Kaingaroa Logging Company.

According to his wife, he played a good game of golf and loved to go fishing, especially sea fishing.

Although he had an RSA funeral, he had his ashes scattered on the Dudley Vercoe (Te Puke) Memorial Cemetery Wall, because of family tradition. AWMM
