    War service: enlisted 23 December 1914; discharged, 23 January 1915: underage.
    Re-enlisted, 17 November 1915.
    War service: Egypt, Western Front
    Accidentally injured, Egypt (broken ankles, knee: no further details recorded).
    Marched in to Sling Camp, England, 17 September 1916, and posted to Otago Company, 3rd Reserve Bn.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 26 September 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, 18 October 1916, and posted to 10th Company.
    Admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 18 January 1917 (mumps), and transferred same day to 1st Canadian Casualty Clearing Station; to No 7 General Hospital, St Omer, 19 January 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 15 February 1917.
    Found guilty, 27 February 1917, of being absent from Tattoo Roll Call, 8.20 pm, 25 February: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2.
    Attached to NZ Working Bn, 12 March 1917.
    Found guilty, 24 March 1917, of being absent from Tattoo Roll Call, 23 March 1917: forfeited 5 days' pay.
    Found guilty, 24 March 1917, of being absent without leave from 8.30 pm Tattoo Roll Call, 20 March 1917: forfeited 3 days' pay.
    Found guilty, 9 April 1917, of being absent from 8.45 pm parade, 7 April 1917: forfeited 3 days' pay.
    Rejoined Bn from attachment, 15 April 1917.
    Found guilty, 8 May 1917, of falling out of the line of march, 6 May 1917: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2, and deprived of 28 days' full pay.
    Wounded in action, 7 June 1917 (gun shot wound, chest), and admitted to 77th Field Ambulance; transferred same day to No 2 Casualty Clearing Station,; to 35th General Hospital, Calais, 8 June 1917; to England, 9 June 1917, and admitted same day to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst.
    Listed as 'unfit' by Medical Board, 6 July 1917, and placed on NZ Roll.
    Commenced return to New Zealand from Plymouth on board HT 'Rimutaka', 12 August 1917; discharged, 7 December 1917.
    Certificate of Character on Discharge: 'Fair: This soldier has been somewhat impatient of discipline and his Record does not warrant a Good Character. His offences have been of a military nature and are not considered prejudicial to his character in civil life.'
    Total war service: 2 years 21 days (of which 1 year 119 days was abroad)
