  • William Johnston was the son of John and Elizabeth Johnston (nee Clark); husband of Annie C. Johnston, of 26 Lochiel Rd., Remuera, Auckland, New Zealand. Together they had four children; William Eli Jo, Mavis Elizabeth, Mary Hammond and George Colin. Born at Hokitika, West Coast. Served on the Western Front, and in the South African Campaign.

  • I am his great grand daughter. I played with his "sam brown" as a child and looked in awe at his large photograph hanging in my grandmother's house. Annie Christina Gebhart, his wife was grand lady with large pearl earrings and a black fur coat. I often visited her Remuera house and later she shifted to my grandmother's house. She never married again. I always thought he must have been a very nice man.
