    • Son of the late Robert and Jane Couperthwaite, of Kelso, Southland, Invercargill. AWMM
    • Corporal P. Couperthwaite was born at Otaria in 1887, a son of Mr R. Couperthwaite. He joined the Railway Department at Waipahi as surfaceman in 1911, transferred to No. 2 length, Tapanui Branch, in December, 1913. He volunteered for the first Railway Contingent, and not being accepted, he volunteered for the First Expeditionary Force as a private, subsequently being promoted to corporal. He died on 1st May, 1915, from wounds received when landing at the Dardanelles. Members of the Gore Branch or A. S. R. S. extend their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives, and his many friends.   • Peter was born was born in Otago NZ 1887. His parents had both passed away, before he enlisted. He worked for the NZ Govt in the Railways. He left for ww1 single, but i have info that he was engaged to a Annie Gibson, from Kelso. My connection, is thru her, She was my Great Aunt. He died at sea on The HMT Lutzow of wounds on the 28/4/15 Lest we Forget.
