  • Son of William and Caroline [Isabel] Dabbs (née Sheild), of Tyrone, Marton.

"Was to have left with the 15th Reinforcements, but had the misfortune to contract measles at Trentham which, followed by pneumonia, caused his death. He was very popular in camp and chosen for the police, receiving at the same time his first stripe. During his school days, which lasted only four terms, he suffered a good deal from illness, but became stronger when he took to an open air life, helping at home on the land. He was buried at Karori in the special corner reserved for soldiers." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School])
