  • Trained in NZ then Egypt before embarking for Gallipoli. Survived Gallipoli, sent to the Western Front, Le Somme. Had a respite from the trenches and withdrew a few miles. So happy to get out of all that mud! Winter 1916, he went to gather firewood for his mates to make a fire for cuppa tea and to heat their frozen wet fingers. A German sniper shot and killed him........ He was the great uncle of my wife.
