    • He was born in Australia. It is not known when he came to New Zealand.

      His name appears in the Nominal Roll of New Zealander's serving with the Australian Expeditionary Force compiled in 1915. In November 1916 he gained a transfer to the Royal Flying Corps.

      Disembarked Suez, 20 December 1915.
      Admitted to NZ General Hospital, Zeitoun, 16 January 1916 (influenza); transferred to Convalescent Camp, Zeitoun, 6 February 1916.
      Posted to No 3 Company, New Zealand Engineers, Ismailia, 10 March 1916.
      Embarked Alexandria to join the British expeditionary Force, France, 7 April 1916.
      Found guilty, 2 April 1917, of neglecting to obey an order; absent without leave: forfeited 4 days' pay.
      Wounded in action, 5 October 1917 (slight); remained with unit; admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 8 October 1917; discharged to duty and rejoined unit same day.
      On leave to Paris, 5 February 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 15 February 1918.
      Marched out to England for tour of duty, 7 July 1918.
      Commenced return to New Zealand from Southampton on board HT 'Willochra', 8 March 1919; disembarked Wellington, 15 April 1919; discharged, 13 May 1919.
      Total war service: 3 years 264 days (of which 3 years 205 days were abroad). AWMM
