  • Author of The Silent Division and The Auckland Regiment

    Awarded the Military Medal when a lance corporal with the 2nd Battalion, Auckland regiment and awarded the Medaille d'Honneur avec glaives en Argent when a sergeant, still with the 2nd Battalion, Auckland Regiment.

    Established the Christian Pacifist Society of New Zealand (CPS) in 1936. In later years was a confirmed pacifist.

    Gaoled during World War II for pacifist beliefs leading to his subsequent expulsion from the Methodist Church

    Was a conscientious objector during WW2

    Auckland Museum World War 1 "Life at Anzac" and " On the Fringe of Hell, New Zealanders on the Western Front" and "Regimental Aid Post" displays. Display item are various quotations by Ormond Burton
    His nephew notes that the photograph on cover of "Spring offensive", by Glyn Harper (2003) shows O Burton on the parapet looking over, at Lasigny Farm

    Name written as Ormand on the Nominal Rolls, but Ormond on his service record
