  • Member of the New Zealand Alpine Club:

"Dr Unwin came to New Zealand in June, 1904, and except for two intervals when he was overseas, he practised in Timaur for 40 years. During the 1914-1918 war he enlisted and went to England where he later took charge of the surgical division of No. 2 General Hospital at Walton-on-Thames.

On his return to New Zealand, in spite of his strenuous professional duties, he still found time for drama work and for some mountaineering.

Dr Unwin will long be remembered not only because of his skill as a surgeon, but also because of his tireless and self-sacrificing work in an endeavour to help those in need."

(From the New Zealand Alpine Journal, Vol.XI, No. 33, June 1946) AWMM
