Grandson of General Lord Napier of Magdala.

Married Miss Laura Buller, daughter of Sir Walter Buller, January 1903.

Captain Madocks and his men came to he aid of the one company Yorkshire regiment and one company New Zealand Mounted Rifles when he saw that the commanding officer had been wounded badly and the sergeant major killed. He and some of his troops went to the west side of the hill where he rallied the troops. They charged down the hill upon which the Boers immediately turned.

Served as Brigadier-General in WWI, British Army, awarded the CB, CMG, DSO and Croix de Guerre.

Lost two sons, one in a car crash and one in a plane crash
