Left aboard S.S. Harleck Castle (ship). Joined the 20th Company 6TH N.Z.M.R. as Lieutenant, leaving Auckland on the 30th January 1901 aborad the S.S. Cornwall (ship). Was Captain in the 9 N.Z.M.R. and Major in the 10th N.Z.M.R. Returned to New Zealand. Lived at Okehe, near Raglan. In 1904 he became a Goverment valuer for the Tauranga, Whakatane and Opotiki districts. In 1906 he married Miss Ann Crawford and settled in Tauranga. Moved to Morrinsville . Retired in 1938 from his job in the Valuation Department. Later still, moved to Hamilton. wrote numerous articles about the 1st NZMR for publications and was an active historian.
