  • Joined the Provisional Transvaal Constabulary at Pretoria (21 June 1900- 4 October 1900). Left aboard S.S. Harleck Castle (ship). Joined the 20th Company 6TH N.Z.M.R. as Lieutenant, leaving Auckland on the 30th January 1901 aborad the S.S. Cornwall (ship). Was Captain in the 9 N.Z.M.R. and Major in the 10th N.Z.M.R. Returned to New Zealand. Lived at Okehe, near Raglan. In 1904 he became a Goverment valuer for the Tauranga, Whakatane and Opotiki districts. In 1906 he married Miss Ann Crawford and settled in Tauranga. Moved to Morrinsville . Retired in 1938 from his job in the Valuation Department. Later still, moved to Hamilton. wrote numerous articles about the 1st NZMR for publications and was an active historian. Had two children but they both died in infancy. he was survived by his wife.
