      Auckland War Memorial Museum Scars on the Heart ,WWI "Life At Anzac "Display. Display item is a diary entry by R. Childs which has the following : 'Sunday: Came out in gully at eight for 24 hours rest. Got New Zealand mail and put the day in reading two Guardians which I got, about a dozen times'. (note: The Guardian is a UK newspaper.)

      Joined Bn at Gallipoli, 8 June 1915.
      Admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 21 July 1915 (enteritis), and transferred same day to No 2 Australian Stationary Hospital, Mudros; to No 1 Stationary Hospital, 3 August 1915; discharged to duty, 6 August 1915.
      Admitted to 16th Casualty Clearing Station, 20 August 1915 (enteritis); embarked on HS 'Caledonian' for England, 20 August 1915; admitted to Duchess of Connaught's Hospital, Taplow, 1 September 1915; transferred to Depot Hospital, Grey Towers, 29 January 1916; discharged to Base Depot, 23 February 1916.
      taken on strength, 2nd Brigade Training Bn, Sling Camp, 24 August 1916.
      Proceeded overseas to France, 26 September 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, in the field, 13 October 1916.
