      London Gazette, 13 March 1919, 3452, Rec No 2871. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, on 29th September 1918. When one of a section operating on the right flank of his Company which was heavily attacked by the enemy he volunteered to attack the advanced scouts of the enemy counter attacks aimed at enveloping his Company. He compelled the surrender of 5 of the enemy and was fired on by the enemy and seriously wounded when their surrender had been accepted. His gallant conduct in the face of superior numbers assisted greatly towards the success of the enterprise at a critical moment. AWMM
